Spooky Spell book Brownies

Who else is excited about Halloween?! Doesn’t it just bring out the inner kid in all of us. Something so exciting about dressing up and eating candy all day, and being scared. We can’t get enough of it over here especially the little boys. Whats not to love about chocolate on chocolate? These decadent little desserts are rich chocolate brownies dipped in more chocolate and then dressed up for the occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp. espresso powder
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 12 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp activated charcoal or black food dye
  • edible gold powder
  • medium candy eyes

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8×8 inch glass baking pan with parchment paper that overhangs on the edge.

In a large bowl whisk together the melted butter, sugar, vanilla and eggs until smooth.

Then sift in the dry ingredients, cocoa powder, flour, and espresso powder. Continue to mix until it’s all combined and then add in the chocolate chips. Pour batter into the prepared baking pan and use a spatula to spread out evenly. Bake for about 25-30 minutes until the center is set.

Once baked let it cool slightly and then cut into 9 squares. Place in the freezer for about 15 minutes.

While the brownies are chilling, in a large bowl mix together the chopped chocolate and the coconut oil and place in the microwave on high for 30 second intervals. Stirring in between until the chocolate is completely melted.

Remove the chilled brownies and working one at a time using a fork gently dunk the brownies into the melted chocolate and let it completely cover the brownies. Let the excess chocolate drip off and then place on a baking pan lined with parchment. Continue with the rest of the brownies and then place back in the freezer so the chocolate will harden. Then if using brush the edible gold glitter over the brownies as desired.

Then in a small bowl mix together the powdered sugar, charcoal or black food dye and about 1 tbsp of water. Whisk it all together until smooth. You may need more or less water depending. Pour into a small plastic bag and cut the tip off. Decorate the brownies as you wish and then place the candy eyes on it. Keep in the fridge for up to 1 week. Enjoy!!
