Honey Soy Glazed Chicken Steamed Buns

Ohh how I love steamed buns! I literally crave them and haven’t been able to find really good ones around the city yet! This recipe has been a long time in the making. The chicken is seared and then cooked in honey, soy, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and a little brown sugar making it thick sticky and so delicious sliced up and onto a warm steamed bun that is so chewy and fluffy topped with a a couple pickled vegetables and spicy honey mayo! They are great if you have leftover to freeze really well too!!

Steamed Buns

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • 1 package or 2 tsp. dry active yeast
  • About 2 ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. salt

Directions

In a large bowl combine the sugar, milk, water and yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it gets foamy and bubbly. Then add in the flour and salt. Mix it all together until a dough starts to form. Dump it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until a smooth dough forms. Place it back in the bowl and cover with a towel and let it sit in a warm area for about an hour until doubled in size.

Once it’s doubles cut into 8 wedges and roll into balls. Working with one at a time, use a rolling pin to roll into little circles about a 1/4 inch thick. Grab some wooden skewers and cut them in half and place a skewer in the middle of the dough circle and fold it over. Then place them on a sheet pan and continue with the rest. Once they are all rolled out. Place them in a bamboo steamer and cook for about 12-15 minutes until they are puffed up and slightly shiny. Remove the skewer and then fill with the chicken.
