I made these at work the other day and they flew off the platter!! Basil is one of my all time favorite herbs, it just brightens every dish up and in this case I tried it in a dessert. It has a sort of herby sweetness to it and balances amazingly with the creaminess of the cream cheese and the fresh citrus of the candied oranges. Perfect way to put any spin on the next dessert!

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 12 Pre-made pastry tart shells
  • basil leaves to garnish

Directions

In a food processor with metal blade attachment blend together the cream cheese and sugar. Slowly add the heavy cream just until it is completely smooth and there are no more lumps. Pulse in the basil leaves just until combined. Pour into tart shells and chill in the cooler for about 30 minutes just until set.

Candied Orange Slices

Ingredients

  • 1 orange, thinly sliced and then cut into quarters
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

Directions

Slice the orange and set aside. Bring the water and sugar to a boil just until the sugar dissolves. Place orange slices into the simple syrup and cook for about 20 minutes on low heat. Then place on sheet pan sprinkle more sugar over the top and chill in the cooler. Place each beautiful little orange slice on top of the tarts and garnish with a small basil leaf and enjoy!!
