Apple Butter

To say I’m a little excited for fall is an understatement! I absolutely love it and everything about it, making this apple butter is so comforting and warming and makes the whole house smell absolutely amazing like apples and spices. There is actually no butter in this, it’s just concentrated apple sauce that’s been cooked down longer to caramelize and thickened up even more! I love just slathering it just on warm bread, or on a grilled baguette with melted white cheddar and crispy prosciutto as a fun little appetizer. It’s so good!

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs apples, peeled and diced (use your favorites)
  • 1 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions

Place everything into a large sauce pan over medium heat. When the apples start to release the juices reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 2-3 hours stirring often, until the apples are really soft and it’s getting thicker, and a deep rich golden. Remove from heat and let cool for a minute then blend in a blender until really smooth. Let it cool completely then pour into jars and keep them in the fridge. Enjoy!!
