Ginger Chicken Dumplings with Tahini Lime Sauce

Dumlings are hard to beat in my opinion. They are just such a comfort food with such a burst of flavors. These are filled with ground chicken, garlic, ginger, sesame oil and soy sauce. Pan fried until golden and steamed. Alongside a creamy tahini lime sauce with chili oil.

For the dough

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • pinch of salt

Ginger Chicken filling

  • 1 lb. ground chicken
  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
  • 1 inch ginger, peeled and minced
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 1/2 tbsp. sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp. green onion, chopped
  • salt and pepper

Tahini Lime Sauce

  • 3 tbsp. tahini
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 1 tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 2 tbsp. water

Garnish with more green onions, chili oil and sesame seeds

Directions

Starting with the dough, in a large bowl combine the flour, water and salt. Mix together with a rubber spatula until a shaggy dough forms. Then knead the dough together until it becomes a smooth dough for about 5 minutes. Set aside while you make the filling and sauce.

For the filling, in a medium bowl combine the ground chicken, garlic, ginger, honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, and green onions. Season with salt and pepper. Using clean hands gently mix it all together until fully combined.

Then for the tahini lime sauce, in a small jar mix together the tahini, honey, sesame, lime juice and water. Whisk together until smooth.

To assemble, roll the dough into a long rope. Cut into 15-20 pieces. Roll each one into a ball. Then using a little rolling pin, roll each one out into a small circle that fits in your hand about 3 inches wide.

Working with one at a time, place a circle in the palm of your hand and add about 1 tbsp filling to the center. Gently pleat the edges to seal and set onto a rimmed baking pan lightly floured. Don’t let them touch. Continuing with the rest.

When you’re ready to cook them off, in a large skillet, add about 2 tbsp of a neutral oil. Place over medium heat. Carefully place the dumplings onto the pan. As many as you can fit. If you need to work in batches thats ok. Pan fry the dumplings for about 3-5 minutes until golden. Then add 1/2-3/4 cup of water into the bottom of the pan and cover for about 8-10 minutes.

While the dumplings are cooking, pour the tahini lime sauce into the bottom of the serving plate and drizzle a little chili oil over the top. Place the dumplings into the sauce and garnish with more green onions, soy sauce, and sesame seeds if you wish. Enjoy!!
