Slow Cooked Apple Cider
Now that it’s full on apple season this is a perfect recipe for all those extra apples that you have to use up! Just set it on the stove and let it go. The whole house will smell like apple cinnamon. Perfect for those chilly days. It can store in the fridge for about 5 days or in the freezer for a month. But it’s best served hot in your favorite coffee mug!
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 lbs. your favorite apples (I love McIntosh) quartered
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp. whole cloves
- 2 whole nutmeg
- 2 tsp. allspice
- 10 cups water
- 1 cup brown sugar
Directions
Quarter all the apples and place into a large stock pot along with the spices, brown sugar and water. Let it simmer for about 2 hours.
After it’s been simmering take a potato masher and smash the apples, making sure to get the most of the apples flavor. Some of the liquid will start to evaporate, add a little more water if it gets too low.
Strain all the solids from the cider using fine mesh strainer into a large bowl.
Cozy up next to your favorite person and a fire and enjoy a hot cup of cider. It would also be good to add a little splash or two of whiskey as well!
