French Dip

This one is a big family favorite! My mom used to make this as a family meal and we just loved it! With just a few simple ingredients you will have everyone asking for more!

Ingredients

  • 1 (3 lb.) Beef chuck roast
  • 1 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2 1/2 cup beef stock
  • 1/2 yellow onion, peeled and quartered
  • 3-4 thyme sprigs
  • 3-4 whole garlic cloves
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp. black peppercorns
  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • Butter

Directions

Pre-heat the oven to 300 degrees F.

Pat the chuck roast dry with a paper towel, and season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.

In a large dutch oven with a little bit of oil, heat over medium high heat. Sear both sides of the beef for about 5-7 minutes on each side until a golden crust forms.

Then add in the soy sauce, beef stock, onions, garlic, peppercorns, thyme and bay leaves.

Cover and let cook in the oven for about 4-6 hours until fork tender and it pulls apart easily.

Remove the beef from the au jus and strain to remove all the solids, keep both warm until ready to assemble.

Cut the French bread horizontally and butter the insides. Grill or toast the bread for a couple minutes just until golden and warmed through.

Assemble the shredded beef inside the sandwiches and serve with a bowl of au jus for dipping on the side. Enjoy!
