Baked Feta
Who doesn’t love a quick and easy app?! We get take out often from a Lebanese restaurant up the road and they have these cheese pies that are just amazing, so of course I had to make them too. I had to twist it a little and make it my own. Crumbled feta mixed with garlic and herbs wrapped in flaky layers of phyllo dough and a drizzle of honey over the top. Warm right out of the oven or room temp they are delightful!
Ingredients
- 8 oz crumbled Greek feta
- 1 tsp. thyme
- 1 garlic clove, minced or grated
- 2 tsp. chives, minced
- 15-20 phyllo dough sheets, thawed
- 5 tbsp. butter, melted
- honey to drizzle on top
Directions
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees
In a medium bowl, add the crumbled feta, thyme, garlic, chives and mix all together.
Melt the butter in a small bowl and set aside.
On a clean work surface, carefully place one sheet of phyllo dough down and gently brush with the melted butter. Place another sheet on top, and brush again with the melted butter. Continue for about 7-8 sheets. Using a knife or cookie cutter cut the dough into 3 1/2 inch x 3 1/2 inch squares. Place about 1 tbsp of the feta mixture in the center and fold over to a triangle, folding to seal the edges, and continue with the rest. Place on a sheet pan and brush the top with more melted butter. Then continue with the remaining sheets until the cheese mixture is used up.
Bake for about 15-20 minutes until deep golden and flaky. Once they are baked drizzle honey over the top and serve. Enjoy!!
